Mark Webber

Mark Webber announced himself in the most fitting way possible: on his Formula 1 debut at his home Australian Grand Prix in 2002, driving a modest Minardi, he finished fifth and scored points — a fairy-tale start that brought the Melbourne crowd to its feet and marked him out as a talent worth watching. Tough, combative and uncompromising, he spent his early years extracting results from uncompetitive Jaguar and Williams machinery before the move that would define him.

Joining Red Bull Racing in 2007, Webber grew with the team as it rose to the front of the grid. His first Grand Prix victory came at the 2009 German Grand Prix, and in 2010 he reached his peak — back-to-back wins in Spain and Monaco, the latter a commanding pole-to-flag drive through the principality, carried him to the top of the World Championship standings. He finished that season third in a four-way title fight, the closest he would come to the crown.

His years alongside Sebastian Vettel produced one of the most charged intra-team rivalries of the era, crystallised by the infamous "Multi-21" episode at the 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix. Webber retired from Formula 1 at the end of 2013 with nine Grand Prix victories and a reputation as one of the toughest racers of his generation, then went on to win the 2015 World Endurance Championship with Porsche — proof that the competitive fire never dimmed.
