Carlos Sainz

The race that ended Red Bull's perfect season. Sainz managed his tyres and the DRS train with surgical control under the lights to break a record 15-race win streak.

The Race

The 2023 Singapore Grand Prix produced one of the most unexpected results of a Formula 1 season that had otherwise been comprehensively dominated by Max Verstappen and Red Bull. On a circuit that breaks the normal performance hierarchy — where mechanical grip, braking precision, and racecraft matter more than aerodynamic efficiency — Carlos Sainz qualified on pole and drove an almost flawless race to take victory.

Verstappen, the dominant force of 2023, qualified only eleventh at Marina Bay Street Circuit and could not recover through the field on a circuit that offers almost no overtaking opportunities. This left the race as a contest between the front-runners — Sainz, Hamilton, Norris, Alonso — on a track where position at the start determines so much of what follows. Sainz managed every element of the day with the calm professionalism that defines his best performances.

Singapore 2023 broke Red Bull's record-equalling fifteen consecutive victories — a streak that had made the championship seem sealed far earlier than the calendar warranted. Sainz's contribution to that record-breaking was not luck or circumstance but the specific quality of his performance on a specific type of circuit. His victory was the kind that his career consistently produces: not against the odds through dramatic circumstances, but through technical excellence and intelligent race management at a moment when the conditions aligned with his particular strengths.
